Beaujolais Nouveau is a red wine made from Gamay grapes produced in the Beaujolais region of France. It is the most popular vin de primeur, fermented for just a few weeks then officially released for sale on the third Thursday of November. This "Beaujolais Day", or "Beaujolais Nouveau Day" sees heavy marketing from the producers, with races to get the first bottles of the vintage to different markets. Individuals and restaurants attempt to secure a tough-to-get shipment of the rare, current-year vintage. As I get ready to go to a Beaujolais dinner with friends, here's a video from a colleague of mine that has covered some great discussion points for the new vintage.

So take the information I just mentioned and apply it to a multi-day "Iron Chef" style cook off, complete with food & wine sampling and you'll start to get the feeling for the kind of fun this event offers.
