The Wine Society Educational Trust announced today that grading has been completed for the January West Coast 2011 Advanced Certificate examination.
Southern Oregon would like to congratulate Chanda Miller for having passed this prestigious level of study. The Advanced Certificate course covers wines & spirits of the world in considerable depth over 15 sections. The course provides an in depth review of every major world wine region, and all wine styles: still, sparkling, fortified and sweet. The various spirits produced in major countries are also covered. The course is a pre-requisite for the WSET Diploma Course and the Master of Wine. Now in its 40th year, the WSET has become the leading provider of training for the alcoholic beverage trade. The four core courses offered by the Trust – Intermediate Certificate, Advanced Certificate, Spirits Certificate, and Diploma – are studied widely throughout the US and the world. In fact, each year WSET offers courses and processes over 24,000 examinations from students in 50 countries around the globe who are studying for one of its qualifications. Chanda an Ashland resident looks forward to continuing on to the next level and beginning the diploma course. Her overall goal is to obtain the coveted and highly elusive Master of Wine title, of which only 288 have been awarded worldwide, including only 60 females. She is currently in the process of starting her own consulting firm, Chanda Miller Consulting and enjoys working with the team at Harry & David. Chanda and her husband, a professor at SOU enjoy the lifestyle of Southern Oregon and spend much of their time hiking and planning for the cabin they plan to build in the Lake Shastina area, when they are not spending time with their furry best friend Foster. Chanda says “This has been the most beneficial educational program that I have encountered in the wine industry. My courses at UC Davis had prepared me to make wine on the west coast but this program has broadened my vision to include other styles of winemaking available to vintners in Southern Oregon.” Please visit her website at: www.chandamiller.com
